1]Its almost tiring, continuing to do threads about the "looming titanic battle" between the dear President,@nelsonchamisa,& the dear SG, #DouglasMwonzora. For this particular thread, would wish to air my views on the theory that ZanuPF prefers Mwonzora.Yes they do.I explain why.
@nelsonchamisa 2]Before going into that,it would seem like the SG has been preparing for his takeover for a while.Infact,if you follow his media statements during the Khupe-Chamisa standoff,it was clear he decided to let them destroy one another. This,in the hope of an eventual takeover.
@nelsonchamisa 3]As SG,he is the custodian of the MDC constitution, yet he deliberately was evasive about who was right, between NC & TK.I laughed the other day, live on radio,he says,'the party would need to go to Congress to choose a leader. Some want NC,some Khupe, some Mudzuri. Some Mwonzora'.
@nelsonchamisa 4]Back then, the Leadership question hoovered around the 3.For the first time, the SG through his name into the ring.Even the presenter didn't see it coming.Anyways, like Mudzuri, the SG chose his next move tactfully.Stood by Chamisa.Yet he was cryptic & became a ghost character.
@nelsonchamisa 5]Anyways,buoyed by his win at the last MDC Congress, whose whole story has barely been fully told, the SG looks ready.Truth be told, the SG win was more about MT & not popularity.Story for another day.Back to the theory, there are 3 reasons why Zanu prefer Mwonzora.
@nelsonchamisa 6]Firstly,some ask,is Mwonzora weaker than Chamisa?Answer is a Big Yes.Explains why Zanu prefer him.Why would they prefer otherwise? But then the question is,Mwonzora has never contested as Pres,so how do you judge his national appeal? That can also be explained.
@nelsonchamisa 7]Whereas Mwonzora has won against ZanuPF before,he has lost too.He only recently returned to Parly. But more importantly,Chamisa's appeal became evident long before he became Pres. After the SG defeat, both ZanuPF & Biti began making overtures to him.He was spoilt for choice.
@nelsonchamisa 8]Chamisa even had a torrid time explaining to the media, when he finally became VP,when he was taking over from Dr MRT.Even the likes of Trevor Ncube pushed for this. The man has been a force on his own.Not much can be said about our SG.He remains virtually unknown.
@nelsonchamisa 9]So yes,Zanu prefers Mwonzora. His Presidency will simply mean rebuilding. Its only a matter of time before renewal questions are asked of Pres ED.Him & all his Deputies have aged.Mwonzora is over 50.This aint ageism, but he takes generational renewal backwards.
@nelsonchamisa 10]Secondly,Zanu prefers Mwonzora because he lacks some critical skills which NC possess. His youth exuberance & interesting diction excites youths.Who are key.SG Mwonzora is more of a technical guy.He isn't someone who could excite unexcited people.
@nelsonchamisa 11]Unfortunately for DM,NC is beyond excitable. He is unpredictable.Deliberately enjoys playing the fool when there is a need to.Give him any type of stage,he will deliver.Whether at a rally,or a interview or a public speech. He can do it all.He is too complete for their liking.
@nelsonchamisa 12]Lets be honest,Zim elections are not limited to technical aspects & constitutionalism.Whereas you would be comfortable sending our SG to a stakeholders meeting,he doesn't possess the allrounder attributes to become the face of a gigantic institution like the MDC.
@nelsonchamisa 13]Thirdly,Zanu's preference is motivated by the #PursuitOfLegitimacy. One critical thing about DM is that he has moved on from the electoral theft.Whether its because he doesn't believe it was stolen,or he is tired of it,bottom line is,he has moved on.Barely ever talked about it.
@nelsonchamisa 14]So when Zanu says the MDC should elect a "mature leader",what they simply mean is,someone with no interest in the Legitimacy question.Mahiya even went as far as saying, the MDC needs a leader who knows the role of the Opposition. For them, its being an Opp period.Nothing more.
@nelsonchamisa 15]It must thus be stressed that Zanu has no real interest in Mwonzora or Mudzuri. They just want to ride on their 'softness' & 'calmness'.Whether that's what the MDC needs,i do not know.Sadly for Mwonzora,he is riding on a wrong wave.I doubt it can end well.
@nelsonchamisa 16]Preparation for a post-Chamisa era is real.Zanu wrote his obituary & burnt it.Tried to do it constitutionally by amending the Presidential age limit to 52,such that the MDC would have to pick Mwonzora who 'coincidentally' turns 53 in 2023.Its a big & twisted game.Politics 101.
@nelsonchamisa 17]The MDC cannot thus afford to have Zanu & 'neutrals' dictate their pace. They have a striker who they can't substitute for a good defender.Attack is the best form of defence anyways.SG DM might well turn out to be the Dr Nkosana Moyo of the MDC.Nice guy.But..
@nelsonchamisa 18]I am not convinced DM would be an effective Pres. But then i wont haul insults at him.Political strategy dictates that e MDC trades carefully. The SG is still a vital cog in the whole matrix. The party needs him.In an office which brings out the best in him.
@nelsonchamisa 19]The party needs to build on what they got last year.Lol,not try to get 4,5million votes for someone who couldn't convince his own daughter to vote for his party. Not all of us can be President. But still, open all democracy avenues.Let the eligible contest.
@nelsonchamisa 20]MDC has a strategic duty & obligation to choose leadership least liked by foes.Ive always said, whoever thinks Zanu has no interest in the internal politics of the MDC is stupid. But if Zanu indeed doesn't,then they are stupid.Word of wisdom,if its not broken, why fix it?enkosi.
