"EU Federal Superstate"
A) The EU Treaties prevent that from happening without the UK's consent.
B) The UK's European Union Act 2011 prevents that from happening without the UK's peoples consent by referendum.
Therefore, the Union only gets 'ever-closer' IF we want it to.
I want European economies to be integrated because it cuts red tape and lowers prices for consumers, BUT I don't want the euro because I don't think it's working.
I want defence cooperation for efficiency's sake, but I don't want one EU army.
etc...
If I wanted the UK to rapidly & fully integrate into every part of the EU Project at a faster rate than the people of the UK were OK with, I'd support hard Brexit and watch us have to rejoin the EU due to the economic emergency, but without any of our current exceptions.
I don't.
The people telling you we'd be forced into an EU Army or a federal superstate if we stay in the EU, have already admitted that was a total lie.

Every time I touch this topic I get a backlash, but I think it's important to point out. The greater expectation on women to wear makeup, objectively lowers the social value of a woman's natural face relative to man's. That's inequality, plain and simple.
The usual counter is "makeup makes me feel good". It shouldn't have to.
Cigarettes make smokers feel better but they aren't happier than non-smokers overall. The bar has simply been moved. The bar for appearance is different for women. That's the problem.

It's a conscious choice "we're" making as parents, when "we" encourage our little boys to grow up strong💪, but not our little girls.
A choice that can only be interpreted as "I'm OK leaving *one* of you relatively unable to defend themselves in future."

If little boys and little girls were taught to pursue physical strength to the same extent, it wouldn't solve anything, but it would certainly make things a damn sight better.
For me, choosing to discriminate in that way, borders on parental neglect.

Does Michael Gove sit in his constituency office, drafting environmental laws, using the scientific expertise he gained from his English Lit degree?
Or does the UK government set the general policy direction and then the unelected civil service drafts the legislative proposals?
Well at the EU level, the Government set the general policy direction of the EU in the @EUCouncil twice every 6 months. And then the Commissioners who they appoint and who need to be individually approved by the directly elected @Europarl_EN, then draft the legislative proposals.
OK well in my view that makes it very difficult to argue that EU legislative proposals are less democratically legitimate than UK legislative proposals.
But that's obviously not the end of the story...

Amid reports that #UK PM @theresa_may hopes to renegotiate the "backstop" provision on the Northern Ireland border, let's recall that she already made clear what she wants in her letter to #EU leaders before disastrously losing the #Brexit Withdrawal Treaty ratification vote. 1/
"This could be mitigated by changes to the backstop itself," she wrote to @eucopresident & @JunckerEU "Proposals for a way in which the UK could choose to exit the backstop unilaterally were it ever to come into force, or for a hard time limit... 2/
on the duration of the usage of the backstop, have been raised and discussed in Parliament. We have also raised them previously in negotiations." So there are her proposals, i.e. the EU should basically just cave on backstop in face of House of Commons defeat. But but but ... 3/

I often agree with @EuroBriefing as I think he & colleagues offer some of the best insights on European politics. But the below is just unthinkable. Were the UK to unilaterally revoke Art.50, I'd bet a case would be put before the ECJ to stop this from happening.
Say UK stays in the #EU under Corbyn with the clear plan of triggering #Article50 a little down the line. What would a good EU lawyer do? She (because, let's face it, it would be a she 😉) would advice the EU institutions to bring the #UK before the #ECJ.
Why? Because, as a member-state, the UK would have breached Article 4 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) which lays down something very boring called the "principle of sincere co-operation" between the EU member-states and the EU itself.
