Every time I touch this topic I get a backlash, but I think it's important to point out. The greater expectation on women to wear makeup, objectively lowers the social value of a woman's natural face relative to man's. That's inequality, plain and simple.
The usual counter is "makeup makes me feel good". It shouldn't have to.
Cigarettes make smokers feel better but they aren't happier than non-smokers overall. The bar has simply been moved. The bar for appearance is different for women. That's the problem.
