Yup heard this this afternoon - denied strongly by No 10 sources, and fair to say the Remain minister front would go absolutely ballistic prob with immediate resignations - but... stranger things have happened
Also heard tonight whispers that 'no deal' and 'delay' votes could both happen on Weds, instead of over two days.. seems pretty risky to me for No 10 to mess with timetable at all given they were part of PM's serious public assurances
None of the speculation about next week prevents there being (wait for it) MV 3 - yes, another vote, another go at getting the PM's deal thro but after the EU summit - scale of defeat (if it is a defeat next week) would be influential in terms of determining next steps

1. @Tobias_Ellwood calling for free vote on no deal next Weds, if, as many assume, PM's deal goes down on Tuesday - @RoryStewartUK 's also told @BBCAnyQuestions he thinks that will come to pass - battle over the whip just one of many btw now and them
2. Several ministers have said privately they reckon PM has no choice but to let MP s vote as they wish, but other govt sources recon it's inconceivable to imagine governing party not taking a position and instructing MP s on such a huge issue
3. Big mystery, even among some of those who know PM well, is how she would vote given that she's fought for so long to keep option of walking away on the table (whether EU believed it or not is a different Q)

1. Interesting - MPs who believe in Common Market 2.0 as Brexit compromise feel positive after seeing Corbyn this afternoon
2. A labour move to that position would anger referendum campaigners but it does have quite widespread, if not decisive, support in House (with usual caveats about how fluid everything is)
3. Last, fear of that kind of compromise poss getting thro parly is exactly why some Brexiteer ministers are pushing hard for deal to get thro next week or else Brexit becomes ‘soft, softer or meltdown’

This is entirely plausible - and what one cab minister at least hopes for - eu hypothetically says no to short extension with no concrete purpose - think this is part of reason for timing of MV 2 being pre summit - but careful strategy or making most of a mess? discuss
But if vote fails next week again, not sure why May any more likley to ditch her plan than she has been all along - if defeat of 230 didn’t shift her dramatically, not sure a hypothetical smaller defeat next week will if it goes that way
But there is total nightmare brewing over what to do next weds for No 10 if vote has fallen -they’ve given parly option to vote to delay and extend - but whichever way govt itself whip , likely to be resignations with unpredictable consequences-so is it the unthinkable free vote?

The UK has taken the lead in efforts for EU enlargement. It pushed for the inclusion of Eastern European states. It pushed for Turkey to get its shit together so that it could join (which it made very slow progress with, and has largely been undone by Erdogan)
After #Brexit, the UK will have no influence on EU enlargement. In fact, as setting the EU as a rival, every country that joins the EU will a) strengthen the EU, and b) unravels any trade deals that the UK will have made with that country, isolating it further.
