I should confess to some family guilt here. My grandfather was Ernest Marples's parliamentary private secretary, and played a (probably minor) role in commissioning and implementing the Beeching cuts. That's a legacy I would love to see reversed.

You get the impression that Twitter is a morass of vicious abuse and stupendous idiocy. Then you mute a few dozen people, and suddenly it seems quite civilised. It's not thousands of trolls abusing you, but the same few people, over and over.
I should add that, while I have muted quite a few highly abusive/time-wasting accounts, I follow a large number of people I disagree with. I think that's important, too.
However, anyone denying climate science is immediately muted. Those who deny this vast body of evidence are wasting their own time - and that of anyone who engages with them.

Germany could have prevented a huge amount of carbon dioxide and other air pollution if it had done this the other way round. ie:
a. Phase out coal
b. (if renewable capacity allows) phase out nuclear

Any objective assessment would have shown that coal power in Germany was a far greater threat to human health and ecological survival than nuclear power. But it was not done rationally.
Coal kills more people when it goes right than nuclear does when it goes wrong.

They claimed their complaints were about the "credibility" of the drama. Somehow they managed to make all the vast leaps of faith Victor Hugo's narrative requires. But they couldn't believe his characters could be portrayed by black actors.🤔
They're like that producer of Midsomer Murders, set in an English village with a higher murder rate than an entire US city, who claimed that black actors "wouldn't work" in an English village. theguardian.com/media/2011/mar…

Today, Trump simply continued the US’s 40 year campaign of terrorizing the Iranian people for overthrowing a US-backed dictator. Since 1979, the US has been teaching Iranians a lesson about what happens if you disobey the US & Iranians have been paying w/ their lives. #IranDeal
In truth, the US torment of Iranians started in 1953, w/ the US/UK supported coup against Iran's democracy & imposed the brutal Shah regime. The CIA worked w/ the Shah to track down dissidents & turn them over to be tortured.
When students stormed the US embassy in Tehran in 1979, they found an unbelievable amount of counterfeit Iranian currency, which the US was going to use to flood the Iranian economy & destroy it.
