well here’s some interesting extra details about Alabama. According to the pregnant girl’s father, the person suing was 19 and she was 16 and got an abortion with her parent’s permission (needed in AL). Let’s unpack this a moment washingtonpost.com/health/2019/03…
So not only is personhood alabama (who is pushing the suit), saying a “father’s” rights should trump the right of the pregnant person, but, in the case where the pregnant person is a minor, the “father’s” rights should trump the rights of actual PARENTS to consent to an abortion
but wait, there’s more - according to the teen’s father, the “father” was pressuring the girl, who at that point was 16, into having sex with him. Be that true or not, here is a case that is basically the mirror world of the anti-abortion fever dream.
Abortion opponents repeatedly claim that abortion clinics are a front for allowing teen girls preyed upon by older partners to cover up their illegal sex - ie: statutory rape. Technically, that is what happened here, even if she wasn’t pressured (I think AL law is 3 years dif)
Abortion needs to be illegal because with it, older men can prey on minor teens, they say. They say that A LOT.
But in this case they are actually supporting the same person that normally they would be fighting to jail, all because he WANTED to keep his girlfriend pregnant against her will. And against what her own parents agreed to. Think about that for a sec
if there was any doubt that the extreme anti-abortion movement would get into bed with ANYONE as long as it means live births and mandatory pregnancies, well, this should be it. But I mean, Trump should have been it already.
There’s enough evidence here to show that this is a person who *may* have pressured a teen into sex, most definitely tried to pressure her into birth, and now is trying to punish her with a very public lawsuit with his name everywhere. He outed her abortion at the least.
you know her friends all know now, probably most of her community. This is about revenge and pressure and coercion and this should shock no one.
Because that in itself is what banning abortion is. It’s about power. Stripping power from people who can get pregnant. Giving more power to those who are able to impregnate. The two are always hand in hand. Everything else is just lip service.
I may have more on this later but right now I have to wake up kids for school
