As we burrow into warm beds, surrounded by loved ones, remember: there are thousands of children, some of them infants, in custody of our government and separated from their parents. Our govt. doesn't even know how many it has taken, or where they or their families are. +
Some of these blameless children are held in chain-link cages. Some are subject to sexual and other abuse. All are traumatized. If you care at all, you feel the shame that attaches to us all. +
Also remember: in ALL of our communities, across the entire country, there are undocumented immigrants going to bed tonight fearing the knock on the door. They are, almost universally, good neighbors, hard workers and taxpayers pursuing wholesome, productive lives. +
Our government's attack on these undocumented workers, many of whom have been here for decades, is not only deeply immoral, it is, from an economic pov, epic stupidity. They do jobs most other Americans will not or cannot do.
