"ex umbra" was the groovy slogan for Dewey Clarridge's crew. Dewey was former CIA CT, paid $6M to provide RUMINT and HUMINT to Flynn. They arrived on New York Times nickel to pop David Rhode. Furlong got locked out of his office and retired. It's a good story, some in the book. 
American Cipher is the best telling of the sordid tale of how a young kid sat in one place while the political world and war swirled around him, Trump is now using the Talibs he hated Obama for springing to end the war. The peace talks are a scam but it's the only scam he has.
The Afghan government and their security services rely on outside funding. Once that is withdrawn along with military support the taliban are likely to take over the south and the north will fight putting us right back well to the mid 90's when I first visited Afghanistan
