1. Karl Rove is part of an elite club who have run a successful campaign for POTUS. No one can take that away from him.

But his recent analysis of what Trump's next move should be is what you'd expect from someone who worked for those responsible for the corrupt police state.
2. Whatever understanding Karl Rove may have had to the mainstream Republican voter, it is nonexistent today. That's not a dig, it's just a self-evidence fact. To be fair, his argument is about appealing to the middle. But the middle is irrelevant if you don't get out your base.
3. About that middle... people don't follow cowards who tuck their tails and run. That's something the GOPe has never understood. People, as a law of nature transcending party ID, do NOT follow cowards.

That's why Scott Walker repeatedly won Wisconsin, and Trump won in 2016.
4. There are millions of voters in the "middle" who are going to give Donald Trump a fresh look after this. The outrage over their media lying to them is going to grow and, if the GOP learns how to effectively message, an attempted coup will of course be "a" powerful issue.
5. It doesn't have to be "the" only issue. The choice Karl Rove is pretending Donald Trump (and his supporters) have to make is a false one. Obviously, the president understands this. But the "middle" won't appreciate police state actors and elites disrespecting their decision.
6. That's the political. Now on to the principle and practical elements to this.

The country can't "move on" when a duly-elected POTUS was denied his right to govern by corrupt actors. That is a fundamental attack on our social contract. You either believe in it, or you don't.
7. Easy to pay lip service to that contract. But none of this would've been possible without Mr. Rove and his brand of Big Government Republicanism. His former boss made this possible using a time of fear and uncertainty to grant vast new powers to an unaccountable police state.
8. Sure it would be quite convenient for Mr. Rove if we all were to just turn a blind eye to that fact. But elites better get something through their thick skulls.

They almost brought us to the point of civil war. There must be a reckoning to stop that train from rolling.
