Howard Schultz says China is not an enemy of the United States, while Russia is an enemy.
And Howard Schultz followed that up by saying "without question" Russia is the number one enemy of the United States.

But China is "a fierce competitor."

That's pretty special.
This isn't a dig on Howard Schultz. It's just the truth. China is a far greater threat to the United States than Russia, which at this point barely holds regional hegemony.
There are a few reasons our political class believes Russia is our number one enemy and China is a "fierce competitor". A few of them are as follows:

1. China owns more of them than Russia.
2. They are afraid of them.
3. They are ignorant of power politics.
To start, Russia can't project power beyond diplomacy or overcome the stopping power of water. They can't stop us from projecting power over vast bodies of water.

China can do both.

The aircraft carrier is how the U.S. projects military power. China threatens that. Not Russia.
