A thread:

As I reflect on the assassination of my father 51 years ago today, this photo means a great deal to me. Even as a child, he captivated me. And
now, as his 56 year-old adult daughter, he continues to captivate me.

I was leaning in then; I am leaning in now. I did not fully grasp who he was then, but now I fully understand. He was a prophet to the world. His words and teachings provide the just, equitable, humane, and peaceful way to create a just, equitable, humane and peaceful world.
What he taught us through his example and through the movement emanated Christ. He was the embodiment of the Christ Spirit. We ignore his words and teachings at our own peril.
That is why I am devoted to carrying forward his teachings as CEO of @TheKingCenter in Atlanta. I invite you on the pilgrimage of Nonviolence, because we are at a threshhold of Nonviolence or Nonexistence.
Let us support you in your life as you address conflict and violence in your home, life, workplace or movement for justice and equity. To live and lead a nonviolent lifestyle is essential for our survival as a world. We must lean in now as never before.
Daddy is gone, but he left us with a blueprint. I grieve today because too often we have misunderstood, not fully grasped, minimized, and whitewashed his teachings; and, in some cases, just downright co-opted his teachings and used them out of context. Shame on us.
As we commemorate today, let's do as I did in this photo - lean in and intentionally focus on what he has to impart to us. We will be a better people, a better nation and a better world when we do.
I didn't know my daddy as well as I would have liked because I was a mere 5 years old when he was assassinated, but his DNA is undeniable in my being.
As I carry his blood, I will forever carry his words, especially these:
"Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love."
Thank you, Daddy, for not just telling us what to do, but for showing us the way. #MissYou #MLK51 #NV365 #Nonviolence365 #WeWillGetThere
