Short little thread on being in a position of power and influence as a Black women, which I imagine might bear some resemblance for Indigenous women as well:
To know you’re about to be shuffled out of the job you were tasked to do, based off your expertise & experience — in order to make room for someone who may be willing to uphold the structures of oppressive power, dominance & corruption that have plagued CAN politics since 1867
Must have been treacherous, heartbreaking & demoralizing - to be treated merely as a pawn to continue and solidify their reign of power rather than being valued for your willingness to work with them to restore equity and justice. Possibly served as inspiration to course correct
When you entered politics with a mission and goal that was transparent from the outset and known to your employer. But the minute you became inconvenient, because you used your *expertise* to make a decision and assessment you were hired for — you get axed...
All of JWR’s demands were beyond reasonable. As for #4, the rule of law is a deeply flawed system — it is both weaponized and side-swept. To be a true believer in justice it’s difficult to wholeheartedly uphold the rule of law, while exposing the moral bankruptcy of these laws.
The request that the PM not impose that decision on the incoming AG in order to prevent further corruption and unchecked political power makes the upmost sense. Glad I got to bear witness to JWR in my lifetime. I missed Rosemary Brown, this almost makes up for it.
