the secret of current insurance/HC system in America is that they don't want you be healthy, they want you to be just sick enough that you have to stay on all drugs etc forever w/ escalating costs + treatment.

This is why current discussions about healthcare don't yield results
If you can't keep paying for your forever treatment -- then eh, you aren't their customer anymore, so pharma/insurance could care less what happens to you.
This is the "free market"

Hey tweeps -- my uncle died today. I think it's important to speak for the dead, to learn from who they were, and what they meant to the people around them, so I just want to share a little of his story.

Because, in its own way, it's a great story. It gives me hope to tell it /1
This uncle was my mom's oldest brother. He was born just after my grandfather deployed to the Pacific when we entered WWII.

This is my grandparents looking dashing and '40s on their wedding day. /2
He and my mom were really close when they were kids. I think they shared a room until almost high school.

I love this picture of them in their bunk beds in their tiny bedroom -- even though this doll my mom had may have been the inspiration for the poltergeist clown, I swear. /3

How about you cover the NATO Sec Gen's speech to Congress, because he is trying to save the alliance that has made us safe and prosperous, instead of blow up our country?
It is super disturbing that we've gotten to the point that when morons like the Mooch are challenged, they just shrug it off and say, eh, so what, I don't try to change POTUS, he's just this awful, and I'm explaining it to you.

America, where teachers must beg for donations that a private foundation will match.

Giving to a cause like this is kind. But we must ask what we have done to make this necessary.
We are forcing teachers to spend time building their classroom's "personal brand" so that they can raise money from small donors and philanthropists.

Imagine a society that let teachers spend that time on lesson plans and the needs of the hardest-to-reach students.
I feel so much for this teacher, who is trying to do the best in a system that disrespects her and her students and her profession.

The quality of a child's education should not depend on how effectively a teacher can hustle on social media to raise $$$.
