By rolling back the state, #neoliberalism was supposed to have allowed autonomy and creativity to flourish. Instead, it has delivered a semi-privatised authoritarianism more oppressive than the system it replaced.
It is amazing how public awareness of this issue has changed. Now we must act to overthrow this spirit-crushing doctrine.

This is great news, and big congrats to @MarkAvery, @RuthTingay and @ChrisGPackham. But I'm still puzzled by some aspects. For example, why would anyone seek a licence to kill rooks? theguardian.com/environment/20…
As to objections that crows eat ground-nesting birds
1. Licences can still be obtained
2. The scarcity of ground-nesters and the high population of crows point to ecosystems wildly out of balance. This is a great opportunity for new, systemic thinking, instead of constant killing
Meanwhile, 35 million pheasants are released into the UK countryside every year, without an environmental impact assessment, laying waste to wildlife and encouraging gamkeepers to kill any animal they perceive as a predator - legally or otherwise.

We might ask ourselves why @elleprovocateur and others feel moved to spread baseless rumours about a 16 year-old girl, and why so many adults want to repeat them. It is not a good look.

Last night’s #ClimateChangeTheFacts was, on the whole, excellent. Finally, after a mere 30 years of asking, a strong, unflinching BBC film on our existential crisis. The science was laid out clearly and remorselessly. The footage was harrowing and astonishing.
Mirabile dictu, there was even a sequence about a political aspect: the denial industry, funded by fossil fuel companies to prevent action from being taken. I had given up hope of ever seeing that on a BBC documentary.
And it was brilliant to see @GretaThunberg laying out the case for protest so beautifully and inspiringly.

US elites tend to conflate their interests with those in lands they inflict their regime change wars upon. In the initial case of Afghanistan this factor played a more minor role however. Justification was simpler in its case.

I know what you might be thinking. "Isn't it quite odd to link Comicsgate to Brexit, Trump, and the alt-right? It's just comics!" No, actually it isn't and JAM is on target here.
Truth be told, Comicsgate's direct predecessor, Gamergate provided the absolute best return for the alt-right in once again getting their reactionary and bigoted views into the marketplace to gain wide acceptance amongst disgruntled white and white-passing American men.
