Preparing for a conference tomorrow and revisiting some old work on place based design/asset based development from 2012.

6 years ago we developed a strategy to support an area to improve outcomes for children and families, co-designed from bottom up with local people.
We made films, worked with young people, parents, held pop ups, hosted events for over 60 people at a time, ran a blog, set up a news platform, worked with local journalists.
It lasted for five years before new revisions came in place for neighbourhoods.

Our work created the platform and vision for multi-agency work and preventative approaches to delivering local services
In 4 years attendance at local clinics increased by 80%, much higher than normal
7% increase in positive destinations of high school leavers
76% reduction in exclusions of primary school children
8% increase in stay on rate at the high school
CLD showed increase of 60% of young people taking part in clubs and activities
Implemented a small dedicated budget which was used to test locally agreed preventive and early intervention approaches
These tests resulted in a streamlined process which means that families gained access to services within one week rather than six weeks
And this lasted as an approach for five years before new neighbourhood came in (and funding reduced)
Just nice once in a while to reflect on and the see the impact you helped to set the foundations for, and remember all the fantastic people we had the pleasure of working with at the council
We're finally writing up a substantive case study of this for the summer!
