1. How Did @IlhanMN Trivialize 9/11?

Some people are asking that question feigning willful ignorance. They are bringing up the overarching context of her speech. Okay, here's my take. The context of her speech was Islamophobia and civil liberties.
2. Concern about civil liberties, especially in the aftermath of an event like 9/11, is always important and legitimate. I not only have no issue with @IlhanMN and CAIR and anyone else working hard to protect and defend civil liberties in America, I support it wholeheartedly.
3. My issue is with @IlhanMN's portrayal of Islamophobia. The Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines phobia as: "an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation."
4. To portray people's reaction toward Muslims in the aftermath of 9/11 as Islamophobia she had to portray that fear as exaggerated, inexplicable, and illogical. She did that by referring to 9/11 as "some people did something."
5. @IlhanMN deliberately alluded to 9/11 as if it was an ordinary event, when in truth it was the deadliest terrorist attack in all of human history. If that isn't trivializing 9/11, then what is?

The End.
