The volatile weather of spring is a good reminder of how important federal funding for science and research is. Where would we be without the @NWS to keep an eye on the sky for us? We'd be literally caught out... 1/n

So as I watch the sky turn from sunny to ominous, I'm writing my senators and representative, asking them to raise the appropriations cap and support robust federal funding for science. Here's what I wrote and sent, made easy by @resistbot: 2/

'm writing today to ask you to raise the appropriations caps and support strong federal science funding in the next budget. I'm a federally-funded scientist working to understand how we can improvement the management of stormwater runoff in America's cities. ... 3/

My work - and that of scientists throughout the country - is important for improving public safety and quality of life. Plus, scientists like me get to discover new things that give us awe and increase our understanding of the planet on which we live. ... 4/

But we can't do it without access to federal datasets, scientific collaborators, and research funding. Allowing sequestration to impose big cuts on non-defense discretionary funding will hurt American research and innovation. ... 5/
