I deeply hold that the greatest & most substantial Islamic knowledge a person can have is the Quran. It was the pillar of prophetic knowledge, and the focus of the Companions.
I deeply hold that the greatest & most substantial Islamic knowledge a person can have is the Quran. It was the pillar of prophetic knowledge, and the focus of the Companions.
From sociological perspective, early Muslim community & expansion of early Madinan polity was built around it, extensively cited in both guidance-seeking on an affair, & in disputes. Everything else in Islam is explanatory in reference to the Quran. It is the ultimate ‘matn’.
It has become the unfortunate culture that many study for years never actually acquiring a basic literacy in revelation, or pursue various disciplines without paying acute attention to the revealed word.

1. Thematic approach: breaking down sections of every surah into themes,
2. Identifying the key/often repeated messages,
3. Understanding how to operationalise directives,
4. Identifying the purpose of every story (concerning prophets or otherwise),

5. Identifying the attitudes God wants believers to engender towards beliefs and social issues. (The Quran also reveals the history of legislation, such as verses on zakat, intoxicants, usury, jihad, etc.)
