One of the first articles I ever published (1993) was on women's experience of miscarriage in which I briefly referred to my own baby loss. One reviewer advised against this writing 'I have known such information to be used against colleagues' 1/3
I kept the reference in and much of my work since has been auto/biographical. Reading across my work (academic + blog writing) it's easy for anyway to find out, for example, that my mum, dad and I experienced homelessness + my late husband had a problematic relationship... 2/3
... with alcohol which impacted very greatly on his, mine and others lives. There is, arguably, a greater acceptance of theorizing the 'self' but there's still away to go. 3/3
