He has an autobiography coming out which I’m sure will be filled with angry white man rants about how millennials are too soft, too queer, too PC. This interview is just an attempt at getting some attention by shitting on millennials like all the other Boomers who fucked us over.

I’ve had multiple ppl tell me that if I don’t get tenure I have a lawsuit on my hands & yet a part of me is still like: Racism & sexism are wild & I trust no white man’s “meritocracy”. I’ll feel confident I have tenure when I see the paperwork that says so & not a second sooner.
There are too many horror stories of talented, accomplished women of color being denied tenure, particularly at elite universities. There are too many stories of people working themselves into health crises & strained relationships for 6 yrs only to be told no.
You can’t ask me to put faith in a system that has harmed & failed so many people I admire. I will believe it when I see it. And in the meantime, I’ll be spending this summer preparing myself for what I do if it’s a no.

Thread on #networking that extends beyond Hollywood to academics too. The thing I see grad students forget most is lateral networking. Find ppl you like in your field, ppl you can hang w/ at the annual conference & shit. When you all graduate you can support each others’ careers.
Some of my closest academic friends & I met at Society for Disability Studies or @nwsa as grad students at panels or, let’s be honest, events with free food/booze. Now we coauthor, invite each other to our campuses for talks, & support one another on the job market or TT.
Don’t just network to meet the people whose books you read in coursework. Network to meet the people whose new books you’ll assign in your own classes in a few years. Make friends. Academic is too bleak otherwise. #AcademicTwitter #PhDChat

Story of black joy, brought to you by @lizzo: Today driving to work on my predominantly white university campus I had my windows down & Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” blasting. I was stopped behind a bus loading passengers & saw a black woman grooving to my music.
We caught eyes, smiling, during the “I do my hair toss, check my nails” chorus so I pointed at her and sang “Baby how you doin?” Without missing a beat she smiled & sang back “Doin good as hell!”
I nearly burst into black joy tears at this random, perfect little moment as the bus moved & I drove off. Thank you @lizzo for creating some unexpected #BlackGirlMagic in my life today.

1. #Millennials we are reaching the final days for Voter Registration! The policy direction determined by the 2018 midterm elections WILL absolutely impact your life choices and options. The #Healthcare vote matters even if you're young and healthy.
2. Company/employee loyalty has become a nominal factor in career trajectory. Boomers lamented how often GenXers would change jobs, but #Millennials have figured out how to make lateral moves work in their favor.
3. Young workers move on from companies relatively quickly, enhancing their resume and generally increasing earning power with each lateral move. Companies are able to keep their employee costs down - for many industries it's a win-win.

I recently talked with graduate students in a seminar on #teaching practices in #HigherEducation about how to design and teach a course when you are not an expert on all of the content--which is really what most teaching is. Here are the main takeaways for those interested. 1/
In my experience, there are four main mistakes that novices often make when designing and teaching a course for the first time.

First, they approach the task by venturing off on their own into the wilderness of literature on all of the topics they don't know well. 2/
In other words, they prepare for course design as if it is a qualifying exam, attempting to become experts on all of the topics that the course will/should/must cover. 3/
