Despite my real outrage about racial disparity in criminal "justice" + the drug war, I'm having a hard time getting behind this "let current prisoners vote" movement. A few thoughts:
1/
1. Prison ≠ jail. 540,000 people (about 1/4 of the incarcerated population) are in PRETRIAL detention in county jails. Per SCOTUS's O’Brien v. Skinner decision, they HAVE the right to vote -- but few realize it, + it's unevenly implemented. We should work on THAT first.

Just finished Jack London's "Martin Eden." I was completely caught off-guard by how good it was. London created a character so compelling and inspirational, he eclipses one of the author's intended themes (that Nietzchian/libertarian individualism actually is unhealthy).
"Martin Eden" is an especially great book for working writers, because it dives deeply into the tension between writing literature and writing for money, the growth of a writer of time, etc. It's semi-autobio. London's a much better writer at his best than he's given credit for.
Also a good book for SJW librarians like @HalpernAlex.

And also also, based on extensive* research I've learned that it's surprisingly popular with Turks. Which: cool!
