And outside the alarmingly influential kook wing of the Democrat Party, regular Americans are tired of gassy politicians bloviating about America as an "idea." No, America is a nation, with national interests, borders, and laws. Its leaders have a duty to that nation.
Joe "Put Y'all Back in CHAINZZZZ" Biden is one of the last politicians who could plausibly claim to be interested in "bringing Americans together" and "finding common ground," but in any event we should be shrewdly judging presidential candidates as employees, not gurus.
Americans are not neurons in some giant political brain daydreaming about "ideas." We're PEOPLE, with both individual and common interests. Politicians who refuse to see us that way - who deride that notion as "nationalism" - can never be trusted to protect our interests.
Donald Trump, the guy slammed as a crass Neanderthal populist nationalist by the Beltway set, accomplished economic wonders beyond the comprehension of the Democrat mind by simply accepting the practical view of the presidency: America has interests and his job is pursuing them.
Lord knows nobody will ever accuse Trump of humility in his rhetoric or style, but functionally he has operated as a more humble president than most of his predecessors and we are far better off for it. The last thing we need is another arrogant "visionary" gasbag like Biden.
Democrats who think they can coat on Obama-style hope-n-change rhetoric are severely underestimating the contempt Americans hold for the failures of Obama's ineptocracy. The Dem faithful are nostalgic for Obama, but the rest of us remember failure after failure.
So here comes Joe Biden, part of the team that told you America was dead and we just needed a good team of Democrat hospice nurses to see us off into the good night - the team that said everything Trump has accomplished was utterly impossible and more than we deserved.
Maybe smoke and mirrors can make Americans forget the lesson they learned from Obama: Big Government is incompetent, arrogant, and callous, and it brings out the worst in Big Business as well. Maybe some 2020 voters will be too young to remember. Trump should remind them. /end
