Researching anti-immigration sentiment in the 1920's and finding the Trump Administration's language throughout, only the originators (Stoddard and Grant) go a step further and propagate unvarnished racism instead of hiding behind terms like "our America." 1/
What we see now is simply an evolution of the blatant racism that riddled the country in the past, the only difference is that the Republican Party has learned how to hide behind rhetoric and dog whistles. 2/
All of the rhetoric and worldview originates from text like Stoddard's "The Rising Tide of Color Against White World-Supremacy," one of the most disgusting and racist texts I've ever seen. It's all there, only the message is hidden behind focus group-tested terms. 3/
For years the Republican Party has dabbled in this stuff while hiding behind rhetoric, but the Trump group more or less just lifts this stuff directly from the source and makes a few changes. I'd be shocked if Stephen Miller doesn't have these books in his West Wing office. 4/
These books are fundamental to understanding our current racist movements, but we pretend like they don't exist because they form a definitive and traceable line from America to Nazi Germany. They inspired so much of the Third Reich it's terrifying. 5/
But the truth is, America post-WW I (which Stoddard called a White Civil War) is parallel to what happened in Nazi Germany. The rhetoric and policies we have being pushed now are the same ones that directly motivated and inspired Hitler and the Nazi's policies. 6/
That disgusting legacy is ours to own, but we're so afraid of it and unwilling to confront it we're letting a neo-fascist movement grow root in the country and move us in that direction again. But it's all there in black and white, in print. This is what we have to fight. 7/7
