This from a woman who has spent years boosting the careers of folks who spent years boosting the career of literal Nazi Milo Yiannopoulos.
And note when I refer to Milo Yiannopoulos as a literal Nazi, I'm not using the word "literal" figuratively. I'm using it literally.
In her IDW story in the Times Magazine, Bari Weiss called Christina Hoff Sommers a "feminist" and Milo Yiannopoulos a "provocateur," but never mentioned that he's an actual Nazi and she's his longtime colleague and ally.
When the immune system of your peer group is healthy, you're not buddies with people who are buddies with Nazis.
Sommers herself appeared as a friendly guest on a white supremacist podcast in 2015, and never publicly disavowed the appearance until I called her out on it years later.
There is no cost to be paid in the IDW for appearing on a white supremacist podcast. There is no cost to be paid in the IDW for being friends with a Nazi.
Oof. My mentions.

“Milo’s a Nazi.”
“How do you know?”
“He said so.”
“He’s a troll. You can’t believe anything he says. Besides, he’s Jewish.”
“How do you know?”
“He said so.”
For the record, Milo was raised Catholic, and says he’s a practicing Catholic now. He sometimes claims to have had a Jewish grandmother, but I’ve never seen that claim substantiated in any way.
The primary purpose of Milo’s claims of Jewishness is to inoculate himself against charges of antisemitism. The secondary purpose is to serve as a vehicle for antisemitism, as in the folllowing quote:
“The alt right people, the people who like me, they’re not anti-Semites. I mean, they may have some assumptions about how the Jews run everything; well, we do. How the Jews run the banks; well, we do. How the Jews run the media; well, we do. They’re right about all that stuff.”
The IDW types who used to be chummy with Milo quietly dropped him when the pedophile stuff came out, but they defended him against charges of bigotry when he was flying high, and never disavowed that support later.
I know we’ve all moved on from Milo now, but he was always an overt antisemite, and he was built up and praised by the IDW crew for years. If @bariweiss wants to know how antisemitism went mainstream, that’d be a good case study to start with.
And it’s not like Milo’s dead or something. He’s still out there. He still has followers.
Milo's followers: "He's a troll. He'll say anything for effect, even if it's a total lie."
Also Milo's followers: "He can't be an antisemite because he says his grandmother was Jewish."
Also also Milo's followers: "He can't be racist because he was secretly married to a black man whose name and face have never been publicly revealed."
