Exactly two years ago, Trump and House Republicans celebrated the passage of Trumpcare that guts protections for those with pre-existing conditions and rips health coverage from over 20 million Americans.

Today, instead of joining Democrats to lower the cost of prescription drugs and increase health coverage, Republicans are playing a deadly game with the lives of the American people by targeting the Affordable Care Act in court.
One thing is clear: Trump and Republicans think people don’t deserve access to quality health care. They think insurance companies should be able to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions.

Quite simply, this is deadly.
But no matter how many times it takes, we will knock back any and all attempts at stripping away health care of millions of Americans.

President Barack Obama declared a national emergency in 2009 during the swine flu outbreak. President George W. Bush declared a national emergency the day after the 9/11 attacks.

Those were national emergencies.
Donald Trump holding federal workers and key parts of the federal government hostage to extort more than $5 billion from Congress to build his border wall is *NOT* a national emergency.
Today's declaration is an abuse of power -- a lawless, desperate attempt to distract people from Trump's failure to deliver on his core campaign promise to get Mexico to pay for his a border wall.

Trump is letting insurers cheat people by selling junk plans that discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions.

The result: premiums go up and taxpayers pay tens of billions of dollars more, all so insurance companies can make $ without having to provide coverage.
This is sabotage, plain and simple. Patients groups, hospitals, doctors, and even many insurers explained to the Trump administration how bad junk plans would be. HHS's own analysis says it will raise premiums and cost taxpayers billions. Yet they moved ahead with it anyway.
States need to step up and defend their residents. Here's model legislation states can pass to ban junk plans and protect people with pre-existing conditions.
