You know, I've been pretty critical of @benshapiro, but I'm not about to let this absolutely garbage interview from @afneil go unanswered

We'll start with @afneil's first absolutely insipid question:
"Haven't the conservatives run out of ideas in America...all the new policies, medicare for all, $15 minimum wage, the green new deal, they are all coming from the left, and they're popular!"

Total softball, and @benshapiro answers it easily - none of the ideas @afneil mentions are new, and there's a robust intellectual debate over populism/nationalism, health care, global warming, markets vs. tariffs.
The next facile and contemptible question from @afneil:
"Some of the ideas that are popular on your side of politics would seem to take us back to the dark ages - Georgia, new abortion laws, a woman who miscarries could get thirty years!"

I think @benshapiro could have done better in responding here. He tried to pin down @afneil as a leftist, and pointedout a double standard in Neil's treatment of Ben as compared to pro-choice advocates.
Instead: "You're suggesting that protecting human life is barbaric?

Still, @afneil's question demonstrates the absurd political myopia that is common in Britain.
The cultural consensus in Britain that abortion poses no ethical problems whatsoever strikes me as far more barbaric - more akin to the "dark ages" - than anything @benshapiro proposes.

The rest of the interview descends into @afneil pulling ancient quotations from @benshapiro out of context.
Basically: "Ben, you say we should be nice to each other in your book. But you said mean things seven years ago! HOW CAN YOU RECONCILE THAT?!?!?!?"

A nominally serious person: @RupertMyers, a blue-checked barrister - suggesting @afneil "successfully took on" Shapiro.

Basically: Poltical discourse among elites in the UK is a joke, you guys don't actually have any clue what a serious conservative movement would look like
