Truly remarkable, utterly disgusting:

The former head of Germany's secret service defends himself against claims that he's a conspiracy theorist by spreading the conspiracy theory that the idea of conspiracy theories was invented by (ahem) "certain" secret service agencies.
Worth noting that most German-language interviews involve an approval process, in which the interviewee is given an opportunity to see the final piece, and object to any formulations s/he doesn't like, even if s/he said them.

So this is @hgmaassen's considered view.
Also, secret service is somewhat misleading in this context: Maassen led the office that is tasked with protecting the constitution, in part by carrying out secret surveillance of political extremists.

So the fact that he is a conspiracy theorist is even worse.
