On this #MothersDay2017, I’m thinking about moms like Nilda. Escaped gang, domestic, sex violence to save her 2 y/o’s life. Separated & detained for 2 months in US. Survived. But now Trump won’t allow her to work. Struggling to afford basic necessities.
On this #MothersDay2019, I’m thinking of moms like Sindy. Separated from her 17-month-old for a month. Her reunion wasnt a celebration. It marked the beginning of a struggle to survive now while fighting for asylum. Her & her baby are two of 311,000.
Sindy wrote an Op-Ed: “She cant tell me if something bad happened. Dont know if she thinks we chose to abandon her. All I know is pounds thinner w/ lice & a hacking cough. Cried for days, traumatized by a govt that keeps children from parents.” nytimes.com/2019/04/03/opi…
