Since ‘17, I’ve been told I’m mentally ill, I’m an it, I need a bullet between my eyes, I’m an enemy of God & my gender identity is because of my father’s suicide.
And for all they called me, my constituents call me Delegate.
You can thrive because of who you are, not despite it.
To every person who knows what it’s like to be singled out and stigmatized because of your inherent identifiers,
Never, ever, ever let them grind you down.
You didn’t make it this far because of someone’s hate.
You’re still here because your spark of life outshines that darkness.
Sometimes it’s like there are more dusks than dawns until the dusk becomes preferred because at least then you’re through with what you see or hear in the day.
But it’s your courage to be vulnerable enough to be visible in the first place that’s the exercise of your right to be..
To be heard.
To be seen.
To be alive.
To be inspired.
To be the source of inspiration.
To be who are and be that well, in the words of St. Francis de Sales.
To be you.
To be you better than anyone else ever could because you’re the only person who ever could be you.
Be you.
Sometimes we’re told not to be us.
Sometimes we see someone else and say, “Why can’t I be them? Why can’t they be me?”
Sometimes we internalize the hostility we hear from others, the dysphoria we feel from within or the horrors of our lives.
And sometimes, we break.
When that break happens, it doesn’t have to trap you in that familiar cycle of despair.
It can be a turning point in acknowledging where you want to go may be scary and unknown but the suffocating path you’re on is unsustainable.
And you’re ready to breathe.
To breathe as you.
As you acknowledge the negativity around you like the passing of clouds - they exist, they’re there and they’re gone,
As your fears subside to your bravery,
And as you fulfill your vision of your more perfect you,
You see that familiar dusk setting over someone else’s life...
And you offer them dawn, for if you can shine as you, after the dusk you’re faced and the night you’ve survived, then maybe, just maybe, they can shine as them.
Shine on.
Your dawn awaits you.
