Kansas, which @DrJenGunter cites in her chilling example, is just one state that bans abortion in public facilities unless a patient's life is in danger.

So how "in danger" does a patient's life have to be?

Patients too sick to walk and at risk of cardiac arrest, patients with terminal cancer, and at risk of major hemorrhage, were all denied abortions.

Under similar rules, Catholic hospitals have long denied miscarriage care to all but the sickest patients.

Anti-choice politicians use life endangerment exceptions as a ruse to make abortion bans seem less extreme.

Don't buy it. These laws put lives at risk.

We don't have to wait for Alabama and Georgia's laws to prove this.

.@ReedAbelson aptly writes: "The emergence of a one-hospital town is inevitable in many places." When your town's one hospital is Catholic, it could mean you are out of luck if you want a tubal ligation, birth control, or abortion, even if the pregnancy threatens your life.

I've reported for @Rewire_News on how Catholic hospitals, which follow religious directives, have turned away patients who are miscarrying and refused to terminate doomed pregnancies. rewire.news/article/2017/0…
As other hospitals have closed for the reasons @jackhealyNYT noted, Catholic hospitals have actually expanded, growing by 22 percent in recent years, according to @MergerWatch.

Caster Semenya is a record-making South African runner. She was thrown into the spotlight for having higher than average natural testosterone levels, and traits that some critiqued as being not 'feminine' enough, as if there is one way to look like and be a woman.
Caster has never used the word 'intersex' to describe herself, and her medical information was leaked because of the scale of her case. We want to acknowledge Caster's violated privacy, while we express outrage over the discrimination her case represents.

In qualsiasi modo finisca, quindi anche se Italia cedesse, le conseguenze politiche di questa disputa si riveleranno disastrose per l’Europa che si è messa a giocare un gioco pericoloso.
La pretesa della Commissione di chiederci tagli di bilanci fonda sull’assunto che il nostro Paese è in fase espansiva, quindi può sostenere dei tagli. Tutto ciò è in palese contraddizione con la realtà.
