Kinda scratching my head at a study that says Texas is 29 places below California on ranking "Best States for Taxpayers"
I moved from Illinois to Texas, but I also had considered a few places in California; Palm Springs, Temecula, Sonoma County. I certainly did my due diligence on comparitive financial impact. /1
Texas: a lateral move (to a house of equal value) meant no state income tax, lower sales tax, property taxes 30% lower, even in Austin, compared to IL.

California: a lateral move meant living in an abandoned crackhouse trailer park in Salton Sea. But 50% less prop tax. Yay! /2
Bottom line is that a house in CA equivalent to my house in IL would cost minimum 2.5x-3x if it were anywhere within an hour of LA/SD/SF, which pretty much kills any prop tax advantage. A move to Austin was equivalent to a 5-7% raise, to CA was a 10% pay cut. /3
make sure to warn all those misinformed California fools currently packing U-Hauls for Texas
Left winger: Texas is the armpit of America
Right winger: Austin is the asshole of Texas
Bipartisan consensus: 150 people per day move to the asshole inside America's armpit
