A now-deceased GOP redistricting guru “wrote a study in 2015 concluding that adding a citizenship question to the census would allow Republicans to draft even more extreme gerrymandered maps to stymie Democrats.”

Ah. nytimes.com/2019/05/30/us/…
“The documents cited … include an unpublished August 2015 analysis by [the redistricting guru], who was hired by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative news outlet financially backed by Paul Singer, a billionaire New York hedge fund manager and major Republican donor.”
The billionaire-undersigned guru said a Texas map drawn by counting only voting-aged citizens “‘would be advantageous to Republicans and non-Hispanic whites,’ and would dilute the political power of the state’s Hispanics.”

Why? See below:
It’s truly bad faith, motivated reasoning, and the distorting influence of great wealth all the way down, with these folks.

But it’s good to see occasional confirmation that these folks are the anti-democrats we thought they were.
To repeat the key point for emphasis: “If SCOTUS keeps citizenship Q on, its legitimacy as anything but a partisan machine supporting weaponization of our democracy will be irredeemable.”

We’ll see. Tick-tock …
It’s neat how this GOP redistricting strategist, though, in his memo sketching out the logic of rigging the census, treated “Republicans” and “non-Hispanic whites” as all but synonymous.

Neat. Quite neat.
