While Pete Willsman remains on the NEC I have no confidence that Labour is dealing with antisemitism. Here he is denying antisemitism while literally using an antisemitic trope (that it’s all a conspiracy, in this case orchestrated by the Israeli embassy).
This conspiracy constantly rebadges itself.
In medieval times it was “the Rabbis” who pulled all the strings.
Then Rothschilds and Jewish bankers.
Then Jewish-controlled media.
Then Israel.
It’s an antisemitic trope.
At best Willsman doesn’t get it, at worst he’s an antisemite.

Yes, Israel will be trying to undermine Corbyn. Yes, the guy in The Lobby offered money to fund trips to Israel. But to go from that to Israel being behind EVERYTHING, saying it’s basically a plot when I see Rothschild and other tropes all the time, even Holocaust denial. No.
Such a clear example of how Labour have failed on antisemitism and why they’ve lost the confidence of so many Jews. The refusal to act on Willsman last year, the fact he stayed on the NEC, ends with another clear example from him of antisemitism and more loss of faith in Labour.
Thanks to those who are pointing me at Shai Masot and The Lobby documentary, which I’m aware of. But that doesn’t mean that Israel is behind EVERYTHING. There’s actual antisemitism on the left and we should root it out.

Today was a tough day to be a Jew in the Labour party. The entrenchment on all sides (no doubt mine too) is grim. At the core of my objection to Willsman (& those defending him) is the dismissal of our problem with antisemitism. Until people accept this, how do we move forward?
We must be able to criticise the occupation & atrocities committed by the Israeli government, we must work for the liberation of the Palestinians, but we must not let that lean into conspiracy theories and antisemitism. It’s this line I feel Willsman crossed.
