I don’t see how it’s possible to avoid the conclusion that Corbyn simply doesn’t (or at best: didn’t) understand antisemitism. I don’t know how you can write a glowing foreword to a book which includes references like this:
thetimes.co.uk/article/corbyn…
How can we end antisemitic thinking in Labour such as Rothschild conspiracy theory or Israel pulling all the strings when Corbyn has endorsed a book containing Rothschild conspiracy theory and mused about Israel being behind a terrorist attack in Egypt? jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/corbyn-suspect…
At a time when a Labour member called on others to march on a synagogue, when occurrences of antisemitism are still all too frequent and, from what I see, denial of it is still strong in the party, I cannot see how Corbyn, given his past, can lead us to a better place.
My belief has always been that apart from a minority of actual antisemites, most antisemitism from the left is due to ignorance and that education will change things. But you have to acknowledge you’ve made errors. Corbyn doesn’t seem able to do that. Plus he is the leader.
I remain implacably opposed to this brutal Tory government. Their policies continue to cause deaths and destroy livelihoods. I remain inspired by so much of the Corbyn project. But I cannot see how we can progress with it - especially on antisemitism - with Corbyn as leader,
In order to fix this mess, Labour needs to:

1) Set up an independent disciplinary process to regain trust
2) Institute a widespread programme of political education (where is it? We’re still waiting)
3) Change (the attitude of) its leader.
For most of the last 4 years I’ve supported Corbyn in the hope of affecting real change in this country. I’m still desperate for that change but I don’t think he is the man to bring it about. Jews shouldn’t have to pay the price of tolerating antisemitism to get rid of the Tories
I agree with a lot of this thread and the pain it expresses at being on the left and being Jewish and feeling let down and worried by what’s happening:
And I haven’t even begun to talk about Brexit.
