The Left deliberately and very aggressively attacked one of the most important positive forces for healthy social cohesion: men and women getting married relatively young and staying together. Everything unraveled after that pin was pulled out of society, just as they wanted.
The negative effect on demographics is obvious: healthy population growth requires a lot of young couples having more than two kids. But there have been plenty of other negative consequences as well.
The epidemic of loneliness and alienation; middle-aged despair and drug abuse, reflected in disturbing mortality rates; increased poverty due to the shortage of large families building wealth across generations; men and women having more difficulty understanding each other...
We're suffering all sorts of negative social effects from developing a large population of unmarried, frustrated, despairing, and sometimes predatory young men, and consequently an equally frustrated, nervous population of young women.
The increasing sexualization of young children over the past few generations is partly a consequence of having a large population of young men who didn't get married. They feel a deep urge to restart the romantic process with young girls, a do-over of their teen years.
Some of the weird horrors of dating in the Internet era come from men and women trying to subconsciously rewind the clock and relive an experience they feel they should have had when they were much younger.
Those anxieties are made all the worse by the vast and confusing social environment of the Internet, which exacerbates loneliness and alienation. "How can I be lonely in a world where no one is ever alone? What the hell is wrong with me?"
But the linchpin of marriage just had to go. It was attacked from every conceivable angle. It was trivialized as a foolish tradition from a bygone era, a weird obsession of religious nuts. Young people were told the riches of modern society made living alone quite affordable.
Children were portrayed as a massive burden, large families a sin against the dying overcrowded Earth. Women were told marriage was slavery. Men were offered sexual license without consequences. Adolescence was extended well into middle age. "Family values" were mocked.
The great crusade of the Left, its fervent religious belief - taken now into the absurd extremes of transgenderism - is that politics can override human nature. That belief is comprehensively wrong and has been utterly disastrous for several generations of young people. /end
