Reading Peter Onuf's new book on Jefferson and this line stood out to me: "[Jefferson] demonstrated his love of country by trying to reform it, to make it something it was not. He did not love Virginia with the blind devotion of a modern-day superpatriot." lsupress.org/books/detail/j…
One of my favorite ironies (paradoxes?) of modern day originalism, is that most of "the founders" assumed that future generations would & should do things differently than they did.

Jefferson (1787): "Every constitution…and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years."
So if one is interested in honoring the "original intent" of the founders, then one should be fine with changing our political system to better fit with the needs of our very different times.
While we're on the subject of Jefferson, it's worth noting that there's a fake quote from him making the rounds on social media these days. politifact.com/facebook-fact-…
FWIW, I'll re-up this Sissyphean tumblr page that I started as a lark back in 2014, but abandoned fairly quickly. fakefoundersquotes.tumblr.com
