Just like we knew Theresa May was going to resign, we know we're going to get another referendum.
Either put it straight through parliament, or a general election where at least one party puts it in their manifesto
Don't know if the new Tory leader can form a government, but if they do it'll be with cross-party support for a referendum.
Otherwise a general election followed by a referendum.
We're further away from leaving Europe than we've ever been, and we're getting further all the time.
Everyone behind the curve. Start fighting the referendum now because we know it's coming.

Had this motion passed, the opposition could have taken control of parliament and stopped Brexit on its own initiative.

The fact that is failed doesn't mean Brexit can't be stopped, just not in that particular way.
The Tories haven't got a leader yet. When they do, whoever it is - just say it could be any of them - whoever it is has already committed themself to go back to Europe and renegotiate the withdrawal agreement.
Which we know is going to fail.

Because he is publicly committed to renegotiating the withdrawal agreement.
Which he will fail to do.
May's deal is dead, and Johnson kept voting against it. It would be toxic for him to try and get that through after destroying may's government because of it.
So. If Johnson can't touch May's deal. And Europe refuses to offer a new one, what does he have left?
A referendum or a general election.

He can try and win by empty popularity, I suppose, but there's more to it than that.

1. I wish Theresa May well. She and I had profound disagreements - not least on her handling of Brexit and her disregard for Scotland’s interests. However, leadership is tough - especially in these times - and she deserves thanks for her service.
2. Her departure will not solve the Brexit mess that the Tories have created. Only putting the matter back to the people can do that. Given current circumstances, it also feels deeply wrong for another Tory to be installed in Number 10 without a General Election.
3. The prospect of an even more hardline Brexiteer now becoming PM and threatening a no deal exit is deeply concerning. Added to the experience of the past three years, this makes it all the more important that Scotland is given the choice of becoming an independent country.

Just a reminder of the real issue on Brexit: can May do a customs union deal with Labour that a) pro-Remain Labour MPs will support and b) that her own party will support... 1/ My info is still no... but...
2/ May is now so terrified of the Tory party disintegrating, as well as the government, that she will do anything to stop the elections going ahead on 23 May - including fast-tracking an amendment to the WA through parliament...
3/ The Labour position is clear. If the party does not support the deal on offer (and it can't get a general election), it has to be put to a second referendum. This is now in the revised election leaflets...

I actually have his book on the desk behind me. Much like Machiavelli's The Prince, it's a manual on how to be a complete and utter bastard (and win). Many of the chapters point to why Leave won, others to why Remain lost. Based on its content, #FBPE need to get its hands dirty.
The article is very different, and it's Leavers that are the narcissists - they hold a belief in something and won't accept being called up on it, deny any facts they're shown as fake news and propaganda, while never questioning their own sources.
I have #FBPE in my bio, and it's because I value Freedom of Movement. I have benefited from it, as have my friends and family. I want to keep it, I want my fellow UK citizens to keep it, and I want EU residents in the UK to keep it too.

The period from 2011 to 2016 might be characterised by future commentators as the Independence Moment in Modern Scottish History.
The experience was a little how I imagine surfing to be
...catching a wave of what felt like unexpected then irresistible momentum that carried its passengers towards a golden shore that seemed so close we could touch it. Even defeat in the referendum in Sept 2014 scarcely seemed to dent the euphoria for long.
Through the 2015 SNP electoral landslide we went, scarcely even noticing that something beyond our ken was stirring elsewhere in the pond, a corresponding yet very different, diffuse wave of English Nationalism…with Jeremy Corbyn riding one surf board, and Boris Johnson another.
