Just a reminder of the real issue on Brexit: can May do a customs union deal with Labour that a) pro-Remain Labour MPs will support and b) that her own party will support... 1/ My info is still no... but...
2/ May is now so terrified of the Tory party disintegrating, as well as the government, that she will do anything to stop the elections going ahead on 23 May - including fast-tracking an amendment to the WA through parliament...
3/ The Labour position is clear. If the party does not support the deal on offer (and it can't get a general election), it has to be put to a second referendum. This is now in the revised election leaflets...
4/ It's one thing to railroad stuff through the NEC, but to sell a Customs Union only deal to MPs, with waffle about workers rights attached, would need Labour's negotiating team headed by @Keir_Starmer to front it...
@Keir_Starmer 5/ However the Customs Union only fell by 3 votes on 27 March. So for Labour members the important thing is to see what's on offer in the negotiations... remember: the indicative votes are not the same as legislation - the legislation would have to commit the UK to a permanent CU
@Keir_Starmer 6/ The way to stop Brexit in parliament remains to tie any deal to a second referendum, and there are enough Labour MPs to stop a Customs Union-only deal going through if its not tied to the #FinalSay - the political background to this is here...

2/ Remain/Leave is a non-issue in the EU elections. The assumption of fighting them is we stay in - so Labour needs a much more radical reform proposal than the one offered by the PES: i.e. scrap the Lisbon Treaty and rewrite the rules of Europe

May's game is move to a 2nd ref but blame Corbyn by havin all neolib forces pressure him to support it. then rig the vote while scaring us out of 'no deal' which is actually just 'brexit' - what we voted for 1/18
if the Tories adopt:
Lab Customs union deal = they split
No deal = they split
May's deal = they split
A people's vote = the country splits
this has been their plan all along: to forfeit country for party. to steal brexit. they do not want to leave. 'no deal' was a rebranding 2/19
Corbyn knows this & is bluffing May all the way to that cliff edge because actually he's got wings, & the freedom of a clean break will aid his program, free from EU spending caps or investment rules. he's far more willing to push this to the wire than May 3/19

Well first, it's important to focus on what that 'deal' is in Oct/Nov - it's the withdrawal agreement.

How many times does it have to be said? Ireland is not threatening to use its veto because Ireland doesn't have to use its veto. Ireland IS the EU; the EU is Ireland. The UK's entire #Brexit strategy seems to miss this fundamental point time and time again.

There are concerns - on both sides - that translating December #brexit deal on Ireland into draft legal text risks blowing up Brexit talks in March. My latest /1

The draft text is due in Feb 28 (a date that’s already slipped several times) and understand it will cover the three options - A B C set out in Para 49 of Joint Report /2
The issue seems to be that only Option C is capable of being fleshed out in full detail - or at least that’s Brussels/Dublin contention. /3
