A THREAD

This just went live, the reason I brought it to the Guardian was that I was pretty shocked that part of the diligence checks for appointments included routinely checking what people has said about #windrush & #brexit regardless of the policy area theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
I stand by what I said in that Tweet and my criticism of the Home office letter and here is why...
The letter from the Minister ignored the evidence for #DCRS and was incorrect in its analysis of the experience of other countries. Nearly 10,000 people have died from heroin related deaths in England, Wales & Scotland since 2010 - this makes me angry!
These deaths are avoidable yet this Government continues to prevent interventions that can save lives – here’s the letter if you are interested assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
Worth noting Home Office highlighted 12 other of my tweets that they said would undermine my ability to work with them...
These tweets ranged from highlighting racial disparities in the policing drugs (a fact), the positive harm reduction impact of @WeAreTheLoopUK (a fact), and a tweet congratulating @guardian for its reporting on #windrush (important)
@WeAreTheLoopUK @guardian The Home Office said “the language and tone used identifies a concern that the candidate would find it hard to work alongside government and may use the appointment as an inappropriate lobbying opportunity.”
@WeAreTheLoopUK @guardian Well, many politicians including candidates currently running for PM have used language that not only identifies concern but is clearly offensive, but as we have seen in recent days one rule for some and not for all
@WeAreTheLoopUK @guardian It is essential to have critical voices in independent expert panels, that’s how we get good policy and how we challenge poor policy which grounded in a lack of evidence.
@WeAreTheLoopUK @guardian But it seems the Home Office now only want yes people & no one who has an opinion on some of the most important issues of our time
@WeAreTheLoopUK @guardian Frankly considering the last few days of revelations & continued promotion of drugs prohibition in the UK, the hypocrisy of Government must continue to be challenged by all [THREAD ENDS]
