For anyone still confused about the cause of the Civil War, here it is spelled out for you in words of one syllable.

(from The History of the United States Told in One Syllable Words, by Josephine Pollard, ca. 1886.)
By the way, there were several books like this punished around the turn of the century, both fiction and non-fiction. You could read Swiss Family Robinson in words of one syllable if you wanted.
Except for proper nouns, which were hyphenated as you see here, the adapters were strict in their adherence to single syllables. If you read it out loud, you'll likely fall into a weird sing-song rhythm.
