I have been writing on some interesting ‘’#Vegetarian’’ etymologies in Hindi / Urdu and other Indian languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Tulu etc. for some time. Here is a small thread on it. Enjoy !!
हींग hīng (Asafoetida)
इलायची الائچی ilāyacī (cardamom)
काजू kājū (the cashew-nut)
methī मेथी میتھی (Fenugreek herb)

Swearing is the use of taboo language with the purpose of expressing the speaker's emotional state or communicating that information to listeners. Research suggests that bilingual individuals tend to swear more in their 2nd language than their 1st language.
Because they tend to think that swearwords in their 1st language have a stronger emotional resonance, & therefore, it is easier to utter taboo words in L2. E.g. Indians who speak Indian-English as a other language, tend to use more Eng swearwords than ones in their own language.
An interesting case is of the Mughal Emperor Akbar (1542-1605) who is believed to be bilingual in Persian and Hindi/Urdu ancestor language of that time. In Akbarnama of Abu al-Fazal, emperor Akabr used the Hindi/Urdu swearword gānḍū (= catamite, sodomizer).

Bharati Braille is a semi-unified system for Indian languages that enables blind & visually impaired people to read & write through touch. It is a linearized alpha-syllabary where each Braille character roughly represents an Indian grapheme.
Bharati Braille is based on the 6 dot standard Braille system which was adopted for Indian languages in 1951. Bharati Braille for each individual language (e.g. Hindi, Odia) differs in a few Braille characters to accommodate some language specific phonological peculiarities.
In india it is used for writing Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Punjabi, Assamese, Malayalam, Nepali, Odia, Telugu, & Urdu. Bharati Braille is also adopted with some changes to write Sinhalese in Sri Lanka, Nepali in Nepal and Bengali in Bangladesh.

Secret Script of Sindhi Merchants
Among the Sindhi language speaking merchants of colonial India a secret script named Hat vāṇikī हट वाणिकी was used to keep accounts & business correspondence. The word "Hat vāṇikī" literally translates as "language of market traders".
This Brahmi based script was related to Khudawadī (another script used by Sindhi merchants) and Gurmukhi, the main difference being, absence of vowels markings (like an Abjad script) in Hat vāṇikī. It was more like a short-hand used by the global diaspora of Sindhi merchants.
An interesting anecdotes related to Hat vāṇikī is - a girl got married & went to live with her in-laws in another city. Some weeks later her in-laws sent a little note in Hat vāṇikī to her family saying that ‘Hiri miri veiahe’(‘She’s doing well’)...

Perhaps the best example of #AmalgamationArchitecture and the cultural inclusiveness of #Hyderabad under the Nizam is #OsmaniaUniversity Arts College founded in 1918. It's the 1st Indian university to have Urdu (a modern language) as medium of instruction (as opposed to Persian).
Under the last Nizam, Osman Ali Pasha, #Hyderabad was thriving as a center of learning, innovation and technological advancement, free from the dark shadow of colonialism that gripped most of the Subcontinent. Hyderabad was quite insulated from India...

The Partition of India or to be more accurate, the partition of Punjab & Bengal proved to be a blessing in disguise for Hindi & Urdu. Why?

Majority (above 70%) Indian Freedom Fighters were from Punjab & Bengal. Andaman Jail was filled with Bengali revolutionaries.

Had we (British India) stayed united, there would have been twice the number of Punjabi speakers and thrice the number of Bangla speakers.

India would have had Four major Languages : Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali.
Though Hindi/Urdu speakers would have still been slightly more than everyone else, the much greater number of Punjabi & Bangla speakers would have ensured that the Central Government wouldn't have adopted Hindi/Urdu as one of its official languages.

While *most* South Asian Muslims use #Persian terms for religious concepts, Muslims in #TamilNadu & #Kerala (who trace their roots to Arab trading communities) have distinct traditions also reflected in their terminology, which freely draws from #Tamil/#Malayalam & #Sanskrit.
Instead of rozā, the #Persian term for Islamic fasting (itself a translation of #Arabic ṣawm) used in #Urdu, #Bengali, #Gujarati etc, #Tamil & #Malayalam speaking Muslims use nōmpu, lit. ceremonial fasting. The word is from a proto #Dravidian root meaning to do penance. #Ramadan
Sanskrit is used too. #Malayalam speaking Muslims commonly refer to #Ramzan as puṇya māsam, #Sanskrit for month of good merit. Nimskāram, the Malayalam counterpart of the #Persian namāz (Islamic prayer), is from #Sanskrit namaskāra (lit. prostratration, here, to a god). #Ramadan
