Labour shadow cabinet on Brexit position has broken up and they’ve agreed to....

.....do some more consultation with trade unions and others etc
Corbyn told shad cab:

“I’ve already made the case...that it’s now right to demand that any deal is put to public vote..in line with our conference policy.”

“I want to hear your views, I will be hearing trade union views next week then I want to set out our views to the public.”
guidance from Team Corbyn is that Labour's priority is still to try to force a general election: "Our (2018) conference policy stands."

fascinating denial from Johnson camp, which claims:

- text exchanges last summer were only about “logistics” of trying to meet while Bannon in London. “The texts were along the lines of ‘can we meet up?’...Boris was unavailable.”

- they haven’t met or spoken or texted since
it seems that Bannon has a history of over-stating his influence, this is worth watching

1) Why does no-one talk about the EU trade defecit or German car makers any more?

The £350m & the lies on immigration were important but an absolute consistent #Brexit tag line was "they need us more than we need them"

*that* was the Brexit on offer, a desperate, pliant EU
2) the sequence of events is very simple yet never picked up by our media who cannot look back more than 48 hours:

- Brexiters told us the German car makers because of our huge trade defecit would be desperate for a trade deal
- "its in their interest, they have more to lose"
3) - Gove, Johnson, Davis, Grayling, Farage, all of them said we were guaranteed a better #Brexit deal than we have now

Some of them might even have believed it.

- we wouldn't need to be *in* the Single Market because we would have full *access* to it, at no cost to the UK

Labour could show it has a truly transformative social agenda by committing to bring s1 of the Equality Act 2010 into force and commit to a UK charter for socio-economic rights /2 (rightsinfo.org/inequality-is-…)

Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

More on the slow death of a dream. Telegraph #Brexit briefing is softening up the faithful for the inevitable permanent fudge, hinting at another five years in the customs union (and, necessarily, in the single market). This ‘interim period’ would, in practice, never end. 1/10
So the resolution of the Cabinet squabble over future customs arrangements is, “customs partnership and *then* #maxfac” so the government can do what it does best: avoid making the choice. 2/10
But UK and EU tariffs will not diverge in practice because of the preposterous tracking requirements this would trigger under the customs partnership. Fox can’t sign trade deals until this works, which it won’t - and no one will even try if it is merely an interim. 3/10
