Good grief. A third furore in the billionaire press about our #LandForTheMany report. This time they're claiming we recommend a capital gains tax on main residences. We consider but then *REJECT* this option in the report:
Yet the Mail, Times, Telegraph, Sun, Express, Boris Johnson and Philip Hammond are all promoting the fiction that #LandForTheMany proposes the removal of the CGT exemption on main residences. I know this is the era of fake news, but this is getting ridiculous.
And, three weeks and perhaps 50 furious articles after #LandForTheMany was published, not a single journalist from any of these newspapers has contacted us. Nor has any BBC programme, or any mainstream broadcaster except LBC and Talk Radio, invited us to talk about it.
Here's the Mail on Sunday's summary of our #LandForTheMany report. Not one of these proposals actually figures in the report.
They simply made the whole thing up.
Mind you, there couldn't be a better demonstration that, as our report suggests, land ownership and control are crucial to the wealth and power of the oligarch class in the UK. Why else would the billionaire press be going so beserk about it?
