I've now read more about Etika & it's clear to me that he showed textbook signs of Bipolar disorder, possibly one of the less stable forms of it.
Lack of insight into one's mental illness is a classic Bipolar symptom.
Needed a 90 day inpatient stay, at least.
People with Bipolar often stop taking their daily meds. Schizophrenia can be managed with an injectable medication every 12 weeks. Developing a similar option for Bipolar would save a lot of lives.
