When you are launching a ecom site, one of your first big decisions will be the type of store you want to build.

Do you want to sell a wide variety of products or do you want to focus on one specific product?

Let me breakdown the difference, and explain my preference 👇
When you are selling a wide variety of products it's most commonly referred to as a general store.

The biggest pro in my experience is that it's much easier to test different products compared to a one product store since all you have to do is create a new product page.
However, typically general stores look much lower quality and therefore have a much lower perceived value.

This is why you will always see those ridiculous discounts on every single product.
Another downside is that the data that is tracked through your pixel is a combination of multiple different types of products in many different niches.

Having such a melting pot of data is much less valuable compared to having the same amount of data from one specific product.
As you can see my bias is pretty clear.

So, a one product store which is how I like to start out.

Let me preface this by saying, you aren't restricted to only ever sell one product.

You start with one, test it, and if it works you obviously add more from the niche.
The major argument against one product store is the time.

But I think using things like Zipify really cut that time down and make it easier to get a store up quickly.

Also the data that you are getting is higher quality since it's all for that one product.
By creating a one product store the perceived value of your store/product is much higher.

This allows you not to have to have a 90% sale running all the time like you see on some general stores.
