DHS watchdog: "[C]hildren at three of the five Border Patrol facilities we visited had no access to showers."
"We are concerned that overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety of DHS agents and officers, and to those detained."

There have been "security incidents" at "multiple facilities," including escape attempts, the watchdog said.
This is the passage where DHS-OIG quotes a senior manager calling the situation a "ticking time bomb"--the manager and particular facility or facilities are unnamed.

The DOJ swapped out attorneys on the census case without explanation.

Reminder: SDNY previously withdrew representation in the Census lawsuit, before being replaced by the last Main Justice team.

Judge Furman had questions about that and probably will about this too.
This was a footnote from one of Judge Furman’s rulings strongly suggesting that SDNY didn’t want to touch the #2020Census, noting he “could only speculate” as to the reasons for their withdrawal.
The WaPo’s lead rightly highlights how the DOJ’s latest census shake-up “possibly signal[s] career attorneys’ legal or ethical concerns” over the Trump admin’s maneuvering. washingtonpost.com/world/national…

Observation about #WomensWorldCup2019:

Unlike the men’s game, the players don’t theatrically writhe around the ground like babies angling to draw a penalty call after a tap. The play gets stopped only after a face is bloodied.

A more honorable game.

▪︎a baby who’d been fed from the same unwashed bottle for days
▪︎children showing signs of malnutrition and dehydration
▪︎several kids who were exhibiting clear evidence of psychological trauma
More than 1,000 migrant children sat in the detention facility here, & Sevier, a local pediatrician, had been examining as many as she could, one at a time.

But she wasn’t permitted to enter the area where they were being held, many of them in cages, & find the sickest kids.

During the week of June 10, 2019, we visited five Border Patrol stations and two ports of entry in the Rio Grande Valley sector and observed serious overcrowding and prolonged detention of children and adults that require immediate attention.
Specifically, Border Patrol facilities in the Rio Grande Valley do not have the capacity to hold the thousands currently in custody, and have been holding hundreds of children in custody beyond the 72 hours generally permitted under the TEDS standards and the Flores Agreement.

The DHS watchdogs visited five Border Patrol facilities and two ports of entry in the Rio Grande Valley in the week of June 10th and found 8,000 people crammed into cells for days at a time. Some men had been held in "standing room only" conditions for days at a time.
Across the Rio Grande Valley Sector, the Border Patrol was holding families and children for days, or weeks, often longer than permitted by law.

There were 2,669 children held in these facilities, and 826 (31%) had been held longer than 72 hours.
