THREAD // Quitting my job at 25

Ever since graduating college and working at a traditional 9-5, I hated many aspects of Corporate America including:

-Commutes
-Bad managers
-Performance reviews
-Pointless meetings
-Office politics
-Lack of control over my schedule
I quickly realized that I wanted to achieve financial independence so that I could walk away from a traditional job altogether.

However, starting at $0 it would take me ~16 years to hit F.I. (25x ann expenses) even with a 50% savings rate (assuming 5% ann. returns)
While ~16 years is much shorter than the traditional working period of 40-45 years, I still wasn’t thrilled about the idea of working at a corporate job for a little over a decade to achieve financial independence.

I wanted freedom sooner.
The lightbulb moment came when I realized I could be free from a 9-5 job if I could develop my own enjoyable active income streams. So that's what I did. Over the past 2 years I've built a small portfolio of websites that produces $1,000-$1,500 per month.
Typically my monthly expenses are around $2,000 per month, so my online income is almost at a point where I can cover all my monthly expenses without a day job.
That's why I put in my two weeks notice at my job two weeks ago. Now, with an additional 40-50 hours of time each week I can go full-time on my sites and grow the monthly income to $2,000 and beyond over the coming months.
Here's the big realization that made this all happen:

-I could spend 10+ years building a portfolio big enough to cover my expenses passively.

OR

-I could build my own income streams NOW that cover all my expenses. Doesn't matter if this requires active work if I enjoy it.
Time will tell if this decision was the right one to make, but I have a good feeling about it.
