A VIDEO THREAD: How did HK protesters use hand signals & human chains to get supplies quickly to front lines on Monday? Here, they need more helmets at the front line at LegCo doors. What to do? The hand signal for “helmets” is passed from the front line through the crowd...
The “helmets” hand signal ripples onwards through the crowd from outside LegCo, around the corner and along the supply chain running several hundred meters down the length of Tim Mei Ave...
And from the supply line on Tim Mei Ave, onwards through the crowd across Harcourt Rd to where a supply depot is located on the other side over near Admiralty Centre...
Here is an overhead view of that supply line on Tim Mei Ave, and the signal for helmets passing across Harcourt Rd...
Finally, here comes a runner bringing the requested helmets up the supply line, acknowledged by a polite round of applause.
Next up? Long umbrellas... (the vertical hand signal like putting up an umbrella)
Yep we got those. Here they come along the human chain. (Oh and more helmets needed too.)
Oh, and scissors please...
Another aerial view of those human chain supply lines going up Tim Mei Ave.
Guides to the hand signals (below) had been circulated online over past few weeks.
(I wrote about these & other new HK protest strategies for @NewStatesman here: newstatesman.com/world/asia/201… )
No it’s not the YMCA. Zip ties needed now. Note how the message spreads all the way out across Harcourt Rd. Supply depots are on the far side.
