Rather than digging up the bussing AND higher ed debate, why don't we focus on a better way to do things that better prepares students for their lives?

I would suggest aspiration & cognitive/learning-style-based tracking, funded through employment.

There are multiple ways to achieve success here, including the use of technology for remote learning, and - yes - physically transporting students to the school that is designed for their cognitive and educational needs...

a few notes:
- local schools serve as hubs for mandatory attendance for citizenship training...
- students transported from their homeschool to targeted schools

- total length of school day increases due to commute, so students are occupied from 9-5, reducing need for pre-post child care
if ALL students are bussed to better fits, there is no need for any debate based on race/ethnicity and resource availability.

And some days, students can use the "home" school as a base for remote learning
Of course, this requires school 'districts' to be cooperative or based at a larger geographic scale... but this is a twitterdraft, of course. If anyone is interested, I def. have plans and wireframes drawn up for some of the tech used to enable this...
