I am going to bend my no-ranting-on-weekends rule for this story on a PROBIOTIC for OBESITY because it is so very misleading. It's not a PROBIOTIC. It didn't significantly affect OBESITY. And there's more! nytimes.com/2019/07/01/wel…
There were 3 groups in the study (n=32): bacteria, placebo, and "pasteurized" bacteria. PASTEURIZED MEANS DEAD and it was the DEAD BACTERIA group that actually saw the piddly-ass benefits the study reported. nature.com/articles/s4159…
The actual PROBIOTIC didn't do much of anything. This, despite the fact that the study was FUNDED by the company that is selling it (LIVE!) as an obesity treatment. Yet this is the @nytimes headline:
